Spielberg Building Seismic Strengthening
The Spielberg Building Seismic Strengthening project involved the strengthening of an existing 94,000 sf building located on the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Campus. To mitigate potential damage from a significant seismic event, the Medical Center initiated a $15 million project to strengthen the vulnerable elements of the building. That project included the construction of new steel moment frames on the exterior of the building which are connected to new collector elements on the interior of the building.
To visually integrate the new moment frames into the building, the frames were clad with a perforated metal which created a screen wall. The result is that the moment frames became a design element. The project not only improved the buildings seismic performance, it improved and modernized the appearance of the building.
Intelisyn provided project management services during the design and construction phases of the project. During design, Intelisyn gave extensive input into the development of a structural scheme that could be implemented while two floors of the three story building remained open and continued to safely provide patient care services. Project management services included constructability reviews and coordination with medical departments to execute phasing plans. |
