Santa Barbara Bowl
The Santa Barbara Bowl project required the demolition and removal of the existing stage and backstage areas of the 4,562 seat Santa Barbara Bowl concert amphitheater. To help maintain the history and authenticity of the facility, rock walls that had surrounded the original structure since 1936 were preserved. To increase space in the backstage areas, soil was excavated from below the stage. The total square footage of the stage and backstage facilities is now approximately 10,000 sf., a 300% increase.
In addition to the new stage structure, the Bowl now has improved dressing rooms and new concession areas. New chorus rooms accommodate an expanded schedule of opera, drama, and orchestral events. As part of the project, the public restroom facilities were upgraded. Accessed by a tunnel under the lawn, the public restrooms are now the largest of of any facility in Santa Barbara.
This project had strict scheduling requirements. The work had to be completed between concert seasons since several events had been scheduled well in advance of the completion of the project. The project was completed as planned.
Intelisyn provided comprehensive construction management services for this $6 million project. The project was honored at the 40th Annual Santa Barbara Beautiful Awards in the Historic Restoration Category.
