Regional Reference Laboratory
Kaiser Permanente’s Regional Reference Lab in North Hollywood, California is a 98,000 sf facility that provides clinical laboratory functions for all of Kaiser Permanente’s medical centers in Southern California. Intelisyn provided project control consulting services on the project.
The laboratory was constructed on a parcel of land already partially occupied by an existing administration building and parking lot. Design challenges included mitigation of impacts from nearby railways and airport on sensitive laboratory equipment and flexibility to accommodate frequent equipment additions and upgrades.
After minor site demolition and utility upgrades, a $24 million three story, stand-alone steel framed structure, complete with a new 167 space, grade-level parking lot and landscaping, was completed. The building accommodates the Serology, Bacteriology, Virology, Special Chemistry and Histopathology laboratories, as well as various support functions.
Construction of the facility was completed six weeks ahead of schedule and several hundred thousand dollars under budget. Intelisyn’s work on this project saved the Owner over $3 million throughout the preconstruction and construction phases. |
