PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Ridge Walk North Living and Learning Neighborhood at UC San Diego is a vibrant student-centered community which expands on-campus housing opportunities and delivered a robust academic program for the University. The project provides a new home for Thurgood Marshall College + DOC Writing Program, Glass Blowing Facility, E-Sports Gaming Center, 22 New General Assignment Classrooms, a 150 Seat Lecture Hall, a dedicated home for the Department of Economics and Global Policy and Strategy, Goody’s Market, Amazon Walk-In/Walk-Out market along with a vast amount of informal social gathering and study spaces and rejuvenates the outdoor experience by revitalizing Marshall Field and the surrounding areas on the campus. The housing program provided 2,454 new undergraduate student beds in full apartments across three residential towers and is intentionally planned to foster belonging through a mix of private, semi-private and shared spaces that support both independent living and collaborative learning.

Significant public realm improvements revitalize Marshall Field and Campus connectivity improving micromobility nodes and plazas along Ridge Walk and key campus connections to the Historic Grove, Geisel Library, and surrounding districts. Outdoor terraces capture ocean views, while interior nooks create welcoming settings for everyday interaction, discourse, relaxation and endless opportunities for connection and respite. Designed to align with UC sustainability and carbon neutrality goals, Ridge Walk North incorporates an all-electric approach and high-performance strategies with low-flow fixtures, enhanced daylight and views, and durable material selections, obtaining a LEED Gold certification.
