PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The 11-mile extension of the Blue Line trolley now provides light rail service from San Diego’s Old Town Transit Center north to the University City area. This project connects major activity centers, including UC San Diego and the Westfield UTC shopping center. Two miles of this elevated light rail system pierced through the heart of UC San Diego’s academic and health campuses, which impacted student housing, recreation fields, classrooms, parking lots, Medical Center facilities, and all adjacent roadways, bike lanes, and sidewalks.

- California Transportation Foundation (CTF) Project of the Year (2021): Awarded for excellence in transportation projects across California.
- National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) Large Project of the Year (2021): This award recognized the complexity and quality of the construction work by Mid-Coast Transit Constructors.
- Circulate San Diego Mid-Coast Award (2021): This award was created specifically to honor the project's transformational impact on the San Diego region.

- ACEC California Engineering Excellence Honor Award (2022): This award was presented to the engineering and design team.
