PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A joint effort by SANDAG, Caltrans, and UC San Diego to realign the road for improved traffic flow, safety, and access, especially to the new trolley station and UC San Diego health facilities. Key features include road realignments, improved bicycle lanes, new sidewalks, and utility upgrades. The project, which involved significant construction and closures between 2020 and 2021, aims to accommodate current and future traffic demand in the area. Performing significant infrastructure upgrades to the primary roadway for UC San Diego Health, emergency department, and all other medical facilities, while also maintaining access for emergency vehicles and other operations was challenging.
